App Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us.

ThoughtStore is designed to give you a private space to reflect on experiences related to health anxiety and recognise when familiar thoughts return. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the app.

The short version: The content you record in ThoughtStore is designed to remain under your control. ThoughtStore Limited does not operate a server that receives or stores your Journal or Echo content. Your data is stored locally on your device and may also be included in your personal iCloud backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled.

Information stored by ThoughtStore

ThoughtStore stores information you create or use within the app, including:

Journal entries, including the text, category, trigger, intensity and reflection you choose to record
Journal entry dates and times
Echoes and their recorded occurrences
Optional Echo intensity ratings for Premium users
Your app preferences and settings

This information is used by ThoughtStore on your device to provide the app's features. ThoughtStore Limited does not receive or have access to your Journal or Echo content.

If you choose to export or share data, that information leaves ThoughtStore as a result of the action you choose to take. Exported files may be saved to your device, iCloud Drive, or another location or service you select. ThoughtStore Limited does not control how exported copies are stored once they leave the app.

Your data may also be included in your personal iCloud backup if iCloud Backup is enabled.

What we don't collect from the app

ThoughtStore Limited does not collect or access the content your record in the app for analytics, advertising, profiling, or other commercial purposes.

We do not collect from your use of ThoughtStore:

Your Journal or Echo content
Your categories, triggers, reflections, or recorded intensity
Your location
Behavioural data for advertising or tracking
Your health anxiety data for profiling or marketing

If you contact us directly, for example, by email, we will receive the information you choose to provide so that we can respond to you. This is separate from the private content your record within ThoughtStore.

Subscription & payment data

If you subscribe to ThoughtStore Premium through the App Store:

Apple processes your purchase and payment through the App Store
ThoughtStore received the subscription information needed to determine your Premium access
Apple may also provide subscription, transaction and reporting information relating to purchases of ThoughtStore Premium
We do not receive your credit or debit card details or billing information
Apple handles your payment information in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy

Subscription information is used to provide access to ThoughtStore Premium. ThoughtStore Limited does not link this information to your Journal or Echo content.

How your data is used

The information you record in ThoughtStore is used within the app to:

Save and display your Journal entries and reflections
Show themes and visualisations in Journal Patterns
Record Echo occurrences and, where used, intensity ratings
Provide Echo insights based on the information you have recorded
Remember your app preferences and settings

ThoughtStore Limited does not:

Receive or access your Journal or Echo content
Use your Journal or Echo content for advertising or profiling
Sell your Journal or Echo content
Use your Journal or Echo content to train AI systems

Biometric authentication

If you enable biometric authentication, ThoughtStore can use Face ID or Touch ID (where available) to help protect access to the app.

Authentication is managed by iOS. ThoughtStore Limited does not access, store or process your biometric information.

Apple iCloud Backup

If you use iCloud Backup, ThoughtStore data stored on your device may be included in your personal iCloud backup.

iCloud Backup is provided and managed by Apple. ThoughtStore Limited does not access, control or manage your iCloud backups. Apple handles information stored in iCloud in accordance with its own privacy policy and security practices.

iCloud data is encrypted in transit and stored by Apple in an encrypted format
ThoughtStore Limited cannot access your personal iCloud backup
Apple’s privacy policy and iCloud security practices govern information stored in iCloud

You can manage whether ThoughtStore data is included in iCloud Backup through your device’s iCloud settings.

Third-party services

ThoughtStore does not use third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

We do not provide your Journal or Echo content to third parties for analytics, advertising, profiling, or marketing.

Apple provides services that support the operation of ThoughtStore, including App Store purchases and, where enabled by you, iCloud Backup. These services are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple’s own privacy practices.

Cookies & tracking

ThoughtStore does not use cookies, advertising pixels, or behavioural tracking technologies within the app.

We do not track your activity for advertising, build advertising profiles, or share your Journal or Echo content with advertisers.

Data retention & deletion

Journal and Echo data is stored on your device until you choose to delete it or remove the app.

If iCloud Backup is enabled, a copy of your ThoughtStore data may also be retained within your personal iCloud backup in accordance with Apple’s backup settings and retention practices.

You can:

Delete individual Journal entries from Journal History
Delete individual Echoes from Echo
Delete all ThoughtStore data using the app’s settings
Uninstall ThoughtStore to remove its locally stored data from your device

Deleting data from ThoughtStore removes it from the app. It does not delete copies that you have previously exported or shared, or copies that may remain in an existing device backup.

Your rights & control

ThoughtStore is designed to give you direct control over the information you record in the app.

Access – View your Journal and Echo data within the app
Export – Export your ThoughtStore data at any time
Delete – Remove individual Journal entries or Echoes, or use the app’s settings to delete your data
Portability – Export your data in a readable format

Because your Journal and Echo content is stored and managed through the app on your device, you can access and manage it directly without needing to contact ThoughtStore Limited.

If iCloud Backup is enabled, copies may also exist within your personal iCloud backups and are managed through Apple’s services.

Journal Entries as Historical Records

Journal entries capture what you chose to record at a particular point in time. Once saved, an entry cannot be edited. This helps preserve the original context, reflection and intensity record with that entry.

If you’ve recorded something incorrectly, you can:

Delete the Journal entry
Create a new Journal entry with the corrected information

Echo works differently. Rather than creating a new detailed entry each time a familiar thought returns, Echo records its occurrences over time.

You remain able to delete individual Journal entries and Echoes whenever you choose.

UK & EU data protection rights

If UK or European Union data protection law applies to you, you may have rights in relation to your personal data. These rights depend on the circumstances and the type of processing involved.

Access – The right to access personal data about you
Rectification – The right to have inaccurate personal data corrected
Erasure – The right to request deletion of personal data in certain circumstances
Restriction – The right to request that processing is restricted in certain circumstances
Data Portability – The right to receive certain personal data in a portable format where this right applies
Objection – The right to object to certain types of processing where this right applies

Journal and Echo Content

ThoughtStore is designed so that your Journal and Echo content is stored and processed on your device. ThoughtStore Limited does not receive or have access to this content through the normal use of the app.

You can access, export and delete your ThoughtStore content directly within the app. If iCloud Backup is enabled, copies may also exist within your personal iCloud backups and are managed through Apple’s services.

Other Information

ThoughtStore Limited may process limited personal information outside the app where necessary, for example if you contact us for support or communicate with us directly. Apple separately processes information relating to App Store purchases and subscriptions in accordance with its own privacy practices.

Where ThoughtStore Limited processes personal information directly, we will do so in accordance with applicable data protection law and an appropriate lawful basis.

California privacy rights (CCPA)

California privacy law provides eligible consumers with rights relating to personal information, including rights to know, delete and correct certain information, and rights relating to the sale or sharing of personal information.

ThoughtStore Limited does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Your Journal and Echo content is not received by ThoughtStore Limited through normal use of the app and can be accessed and managed directly within ThoughtStore.

Where California privacy law applies to ThoughtStore Limited, you may contact us using the details below to exercise any applicable rights relating to personal information that we hold about you.

Canada privacy rights

Canadian privacy law may provide you with rights relating to personal information an organisation holds about you, including rights to access information and challenge its accuracy.

Your Journal and Echo content is not received by ThoughtStore Limited through normal use of the app and can be accessed and managed directly within ThoughtStore.

If ThoughtStore Limited holds other personal information about you, for example information you have provided when contacting us, you can contact us using the details below with a privacy request or concern.

Where applicable, you may also have the right to raise a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another relevant Canadian privacy authority.

Australian privacy rights

Where Australian privacy law applies, you may have rights relating to personal information an organisation holds about you, including rights to request access or correction.

Your Journal and Echo content is not received by ThoughtStore Limited through normal use of the app and can be accessed and managed directly within ThoughtStore.

Where applicable, you may also be able to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Age restrictions

ThoughtStore is intended for users aged 16 and over.

Data security

ThoughtStore is designed to keep your Journal and Echo content private and under your control.

Journal and Echo content is stored locally on your device
Optional Face ID or Touch ID can help protect access to ThoughtStore
ThoughtStore Limited does not receive your Journal or Echo content through normal use of the app
ThoughtStore data may be included in iCloud Backup if you have enabled backup for the app
If you back up your iPhone to a Mac or PC, you can use an encrypted backup to provide additional protection

The security of locally stored data also depends on the security of your device and backups. We recommend using a device passcode and keeping iOS up to date.

Security incidents

ThoughtStore Limited does not receive your Journal or Echo content through normal use of the app, which limits our exposure to that information.

If we become aware of a security issue affecting ThoughtStore or personal information for which ThoughtStore Limited is responsible, we will investigate it and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable law. This may include providing information to affected users or relevant authorities where required.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to ThoughtStore, our privacy practices, or applicable legal requirements.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Where appropriate, we may also provide additional notice of significant changes.

Governing law

ThoughtStore Limited is established in England and this privacy policy is governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under other applicable privacy and data protection laws.
